Climate Training Co announces Freskival: Aotearoa’s big weekend of climate connection

Climate Training Co today announced Freskival, a nationwide weekend of Climate Fresk workshops taking place Friday 17 – Sunday 19 April. For the first time, the acclaimed Climate Fresk workshops will run simultaneously in major centres across Aotearoa: Whangārei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, and Dunedin, plus online. The Freskival is set to be New Zealand’s most widespread collective climate literacy event.

Climate literacy is a key enabler of climate action, yet many people feel unsure about the science. Freskival aims to change that by bringing Climate Fresk, the world’s most‑used climate education tool, to communities nationwide for one memorable weekend.

The Climate Fresk is a hands-on, collaborative workshop that helps groups map the causes and consequences of climate change using the same scientific evidence as the IPCC. Designed to be completed around a table in just a few hours, it gives participants a clear, accessible understanding of how our climate system works - and what meaningful action looks like.

“Our aim is to spark the biggest collective climate literacy moment Aotearoa has ever seen,” says Climate Training Co founder Emily Mabin Sutton. “We’re inviting people across Aotearoa to take part in a shared moment of understanding and empowerment. When people learn together, action becomes inevitable.”

Alongside public events, workplaces are signing up to be part of Freskival by hosting an internal Climate Fresk for their teams. Climate Training Co welcomes enquiries from organisations wanting to build climate capability and confidence within their workforce.

Workshops are open to everyone aged 14+. Places are limited to keep sessions interactive, so early booking is encouraged.

Quotes from Climate Training Co Founder and climate educator, Emily Mabin Sutton

“You don’t need to be a scientist to understand climate change — you just need a group of people who care. Freskival makes climate knowledge accessible to everyone.”

“Freskival brings workplaces, whānau, and neighbourhoods together to build shared understanding and shared momentum for climate action.”

“People often feel overwhelmed by climate change. The Climate Fresk turns that overwhelm into clarity and confidence. Freskival will amplify that nationwide.”

“We’re in a decisive decade. Freskival is our chance to learn together, and act with purpose.”
